15 Cheapest Places to Buy Stamps to Save Money in 2023

by Timothy Ronaldson

Updated

Like everything today, the prices of stamps continue to rise. As a result, everyone wants to find the cheapest place to buy stamps.

Fortunately, there are plenty of frugal options whether you’re looking for single stamps, a sheet, or specialty stamps for the best price.

1. Stamps.com

Stamps.com is a site that advertises a lot, so you may already be familiar with them.

They offer numerous features as part of their membership, which includes a four-week free trial, a digital postal scale, and $5 in postage.

Their membership costs $17.99, and doesn’t require you to sign a contract.

You’ll have access to digital postage and actual stamps, which are offered at 47 cents apiece, a savings of 11 cents for each stamp.

2. BuyDiscountStamps.com

If you’re planning to buy stamps in bulk, BuyDiscountStamps.com offers significant savings if you order enough.

You can purchase rolls of stamps or sheets of 20 stamps — just like at a Post Office.

One of the downsides to the site is they require a minimum order of $500.

If you meet that minimum though, the reward is a nice discount. A sheet of 20 stamps sells for $10.44, a 10% discount.

Rolls of 100 stamps sell for $52.20, an 11.5% discount.

Some of their postage offerings include:

  • Metered – For people who have larger envelopes or packages
  • Postcard – Specific rates for people who send a lot of postcards
  • First-Class – Known more generally as Forever stamps
  • Additional Ounces – For letters that are slightly overweight

If you have an online business that requires shipping, such as selling clothes online, this could be a smart investment.

Trend on the Rise

One thing to keep an eye out for when buying stamps online is counterfeit stamps. AARP reported, for instance, that counterfeit stamp usage was on the rise over the last holiday season, with many stamps being offered 50% less than retail value.

3. eBay

While people might not think of eBay as a great place to buy stamps, it’s surprisingly popular.

A listing of 20 forever stamps can be purchased for $9.75, for example, a discount of 10 cents per stamp.

If you’re on the selling end instead, eBay is also one of the top sites to sell your stamp collection.

4. Walmart

The mega retailer is a reliable source for stamps, whether you send lots of postage or are just a college student on a budget.

One current Walmart listing offers a roll of 100 forever stamps for only $25.95.

To get the best deals from Walmart on stamps, you’ll need to buy a bulk order of at least 100 stamps, but you can use them forever.

5. USPS

Did you know that the Postal Service offers discounts for purchasing stamps from their website rather than from a Post Office?

In fact, they sell forever stamps individually for $0.55, which saves you three cents per stamp.

It’s not a huge savings, but it’s cheaper than purchasing in person.

One of the best parts about buying stamps at USPS.com is that shipping is free, and you don’t have to buy in bulk.

You can purchase as little as 20 stamps, and still get the discount.

In addition to stamps, you can also purchase from their site:

  • Supplies – Such as different shipping envelopes and boxes
  • Cards – From birthday to holiday themed cards
  • Gifts – Shoppers can buy framed stamps as gifts
  • Collectors – They offer various collectors stamps and yearbooks

6. Office Depot

This giant office retailer offers stamps that can be shipped at a reasonable discount.

Stamps go for as low as 55 cents each, saving shoppers three cents per stamp.

7. Amazon

Amazon is the largest ecommerce retailer in the world, so it’s no surprise they have some solid offers on stamps.

If you don’t care about the stamp’s cover art, it’s easy to find stamps for 55 cents each, which is a ~5% discount.

Trend on the Rise

Amazon is actively working to cut down on the number of fraudulent stamps being listed. As a result, they restrict how stamps can be sold on the platform.

8. Overstock

Overstock is a very popular online marketplace where you can buy just about anything, including forever stamps.

They aren’t always offered on the site, but sometimes you can catch an amazing deal.

Even if the stamps themselves aren’t discounted, Overstock offers a 15% discount for all orders if you sign up for email notifications.

9. Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club is one of the leading wholesale stores in the country.

In terms of stamps, they don’t offer the largest savings, but it’s still cheaper than regular retail prices.

Whether you purchase a roll of 100 stamps or 20 stamps, their price is usually 57 cents per stamp.

10. Walgreens

Yes, you can actually purchase stamps from Walgreens, but don’t expect steep discounts.

They offer stamps at 58 cents each, which is the average retail price. Although they are not the cheapest, it’s hard to beat their convenience with over 8,000 locations

11. Costco

Costco is another leading membership warehouse retailer. They offer stamps for sale on their site, and in stores.

It’s not a huge discount, either, at 57 cents per stamp, just like Sam’s Club. However, if you’re looking to pinch pennies, this could help.

12. Etsy

Some sellers list forever stamps on Etsy, which is primarily an ecommerce site for crafts and handmade goods.

A downside to purchasing stamps on Etsy is shipping times can be long. In fact, it can sometimes take weeks for orders to arrive, and you might have to pay for shipping.

13. Target

Although Target sells postage stamps, they are usually for current retail prices.

An advantage to buying at Target, though, is that you could use rewards dollars to purchase stamps.

This could drive the price of stamps down considerably.

14. Staples

Staples is another office supply store that offers stamps at their retail locations.

Their stamps hardly ever go on sale from their current market prices.

However, they have a great rewards program where you could potentially apply discounts to a stamps purchase.

15. CVS

CVS is a major pharmacy, but they also offer home and office products like Walgreens.

They don’t usually offer discounts on stamps, but customers can qualify for huge discounts on products by signing up for a free CVS shopper’s card.
