Dispelling 10 Long-Held Societal Myths: It’s Time to Break Free from Their Deception

We all believe things that we shouldn’t over the years. Society has been telling us all lies, and an interesting question about it was asked on the internet. The question was, “What lie do people need to stop believing?” We want to share some excellent responses with you, and it might get you thinking about what you believe, whether legit or not.

Solving Problems

How schools are run is entirely different from how it was 20 years ago. There are different methods of teaching, and a lot of us don’t know what’s going on. One person shared on the forum, “Nine out of ten people can’t solve a simple math problem.” While another person responded, “I bet you can’t name another word that starts with this letter!”

Saying You’ll Do It Later

Many of us fool ourselves by saying we’ll tackle a challenge later in the day. However, hours pass, and we still haven’t done the job we said we would. One top-voted response said, “It’ll be easier if I get gas in the morning on the way to work.” Seeing that little red light shine on your car is a notification that your gas is running low, but we always say that we’ll do it in the morning as we think it’ll be more accessible. Little do we know that we’re rushing around in the morning and completely forget that our car needs filling up. Another person added, “If I get lunch 30 minutes early, I’ll beat the lunch rush.” However, others had the same idea, and now you’re stuck in the lunch rush.

It’s Worth Buying When A Celebrity Has It

If you see a photo of your favorite celebrity wearing new gear, this doesn’t mean the product is worth buying. So many people fall into the trap of thinking it must be great because a celebrity has spent money on it. Don’t be fooled, and don’t believe the lie that everything you see is incredible. This is the same for brands that celebrities are sponsored by. They are getting paid to say that the product is good.

Facts About Your Income When Getting A Raise

When you get a raise, you might notice that you have a beaming smile on your face. That is until you get your first raise paycheck. A raise might mean you’ll get put into the higher tax bracket. This means that you may not be better off at all. One person said that they have argued with people over this fact, and they said that many people don’t understand it.

Eating Spiders in Your Sleep

You may have heard that we are likely to eat a certain amount of spiders in our sleep over our lifetime. This lie should stop being believed. Spiders aren’t very keen to come near us if they don’t have to, and as you know, are much more scared of us than we are of them. A person on the forum joked, saying, “Those are rookie numbers.” Whereas, another person said, “Spider Georg, is that you? Let’s just say we don’t eat spiders when we sleep.”

Never Trust a Package

It’s becoming more common now to have little “open here” slits in a package that is supposed to make opening a

package more convenient and more accessible. However, this isn’t the case. It’s one of the biggest lies, as a package rarely opens how it’s claimed to be. There were a lot of people on the thread who praised the notes on the packaging that weren’t true, such as “do not eat,” “resealable,” and “flushable.”

Everything is Allowed When You are Related

Regardless of whether you’re blood-related to someone, this doesn’t mean that everything they do and say should be forgiven or forgotten. Sometimes, we’re born into families that aren’t kind, and we’re still expected to take on their negative impact on our lives. This isn’t true. Many people on the thread could relate, and one person said, “It’s always, ‘but she’s your mom’ to the child instead of ‘that’s your kid, how could you do that to them’ to the parent.”

Don’t Keep Pleasing Everyone

We all begin to learn this from a very young age, but we don’t pay attention, so we continue to grow up in a world where we think pleasing everyone else before ourselves is how we should be living. Wrong! One person answered, saying, “Stop believing that other people are fragile and can’t handle you being truthful or being yourself. Stop believing you’re bad for trying to get your needs met.” They added that some books help to understand his advice, “No More Mr. Nice Guy” by Robert A Glove and “Not Nice: Stop Pleasing, Staying Silent, and Feeling Guilty, and Start Speaking Up, Saying No, Asking Boldly, and Unapologetically Being Yourself.”

Adults Know What’s Going On

The truth is, we’re all winging life. Nobody is given guidance when they’re born and enter adulthood because we’re all going through the same thing. We have no idea what’s going on in life. The only thing we’re 100% sure of is that we need to work to survive this life. One person said, “I stumbled upon a discussion where individuals shared moments that made them fully aware of adulthood. Someone reminisced about the realization that parents and adults, in general, were often merely improvising or “winging it” through life.” Another person added that they have an overwhelming sense of responsibility and disbelief at bringing their newborn baby home from the hospital, and they began to question their ability to care for the delicate life.”

This is a huge misconception that could potentially be life-threatening. Many of us believe that we need to wait 24 hours before reporting someone as missing. This isn’t true. You do not have to wait any length of time if you’re concerned for someone’s welfare. One person said, “Those first hours are the most critical in the search for a missing person.”
