Big Checks, Tiny Brains? 17 Jobs That Pay Well for Those Lacking the IQ Edge

by Emily Clarkson

We often spend time judging people on their intelligence when it comes to what job they have. Even though this is unfair, certain jobs have been associated with lower intellectual capabilities. Let’s have a look at some of the professions that are known to require less brain power.

Sales Representative

Any sales representative should have good knowledge digitally. Still, when they’re not, it’s a sign that they need more training to provide better service to their customers. “Dumb is unfair. But those who work as a Sales rep for every industry I’ve been a part of were terrible with computers.” Says one gentleman.

Adult Entertainment Stores

It’s a strange world, the adult entertainment life. It’s quite surprising that these stores need mature and responsible employees. However, some people seek jobs that struggle with job norms like stable childcare and punctuality. We think the industry needs to have a higher standard set for hiring. “So, I work in an adult entertainment store. Some of my co-workers who have been there forever are smart cookies, but most applicants are dumb. When I first walked in and asked for an application, I was handed a sheet of paper and told to read it before I could have an application. It said you shouldn’t apply if you’re prone to oversleeping, frequently get flat tires, don’t have regular child care, and many other common-sense things that apply to almost any job. I thought, “What kind of first-class idiots do they usually get applying for this job?”

MLM Recruiters

We know that MLM workers are recruiting for their own compensation, which is great for them if they’re good at it. MLM recruiters are usually clever, but most people they recruit don’t even realize they’re being scammed. We should become more aware of the situations regarding MLM recruiters. “MLM higher-ups and recruiters are amazing scammers.”

Warehousing Roles

Warehouses will hire people from all walks of life, but there is a lack of educational threshold. This has led to situations where illiterate individuals must read the health and safety briefs. Stricter employment tests or better training should be involved, which could resolve the problem. “Warehousing. We have no educational requirements at all. We have functionally illiterate people and Health and Safety Briefs must be read to them.”

Food Service Workers

There is a fast-paced nature when it comes to serving food, and it requires a competent individual to do the job. However, there are usually high employee turnarounds due to weak hiring decisions. “Food service… I’m a waitress/bartender, and it’s amazing how many stupid people they hire…”

Truck Driving Jobs

Being on the road requires a lot of concentration and is definitely not a place where you can run riot. However, some truck companies will hire anyone, which can lead to very concerning safety issues. Having a more rigorous driving test or psychometric evaluation could help this issue. “I don’t want to attack the profession of driving trucks, but the company Swift hires whatever dumb idiot can hold a steering wheel, and even sometimes dumb idiots that can’t.”

Supermarket Employees

Many different individuals work in the supermarket, and people from all walks of life. Even though these employees aren’t “dumb” some lack the necessary skills, which raises many questions and concerns about the hiring criteria. “Supermarkets…. Source: I am dumb. Work in one.”

Musical Instrument Salesperson

It should always be a great experience when you purchase a musical instrument. However, when you go into the store and need the whole team to purchase one instrument, this is a disheartening sign and shows that something isn’t quite right with their hiring process. “Guitar Centre salesman. You need 5 of them and two managers to buy a kazoo.”

Scholarship and Financial Aid Officers

Even though these individuals are expected to sort through complex financial information and sources and speak about these in-depth, they tend to reach out too much to those higher than them when things get too much. “Scholarship and financial aid officers.”

Acting Jobs

There is a lot of work in acting, and it requires an ability to adapt to different jobs and a lot of creativity. However, some actors take it too far, and they over-analyze until they reach the point of absurdity. All necessary to avoid casting errors are thorough training and raw talent. “Anything that requires actors….”

Real Estate Agents

Working this job should mean they can guide their clients without much effort. However, some agents are good at their job but need help in other areas and life skills, which could raise questions about comprehensive abilities. “From my experience, real estate…”

Restaurant Management

If you lack good management in a restaurant, you’ll find that nothing will go right. It’s a requirement, and unfortunately, there are still some chains that will hire a manager who can’t effectively run operations, ultimately leading to inefficiencies. To resolve this, there needs to be leadership training and proper screening. “Darden Restaurants, I’m not talking about the store-level people either; I’m talking about management. The number of things they managed to screw up is truly mind-blowing.”

Oil Refinery Engineers

Highly trained engineers are needed for this job, but it seems that some employees don’t want someone experienced but would fill the seats instead. This definitely leads to questions about their hiring criteria. “For some reason, every single oil refinery has a couple of engineers and operators who don’t do anything, have been there forever, and have extreme views that are almost hilarious – both liberal and conservative wackos. Usually job titles like safety engineer or maintenance planner 3.”

Navy Cooks

We usually think that there is a low aptitude score when it comes to the Navy cook profession. However, it is essential that the individuals who do this job pay attention to detail and be able to follow a recipe correctly. It might be time for the Navy to rethink their job assignment strategy. “Cooks in the Navy. When you enlist in the Navy, they test your aptitude and give you a list of jobs based on your results. If you score in the bottom 5th percentile, you have one job available: Cook. Cooks in the Navy are some dumb people.”

Construction Workers

Working within the construction industry can be challenging, as it requires dedication and grit. However, the industry hires people who struggle with personal issues, which can ultimately lead to productivity issues. “Apparently construction…”

Sports Shop Employees

We always want good advice whenever we go into a shop, especially a sports shop if we’re looking for something specific. However, when we go into a sports shop and speak to an employee and realize they can’t give us the advice we need, concerns are raised about their hiring standards. “Not a ‘profession,’ but people who work in sports shops…”

TSA Agents

We don’t expect the individuals who take on TSA to be university graduates, but we do expect a good level of competency and awareness to ensure our safety is paramount. We believe that their training process, along with the hiring process, could benefit from more concentration. “TSA agents are not exactly Harvard grads.”
