Revealing Vulnerability: Actions That Loudly Broadcast Your Inner Uncertainties to the World

It’s normal for us to have insecurities. Whether they come from doubts within our heads or fears drilled into us since we were little. However, we sometimes subconsciously allow those insecurities to present themselves, and our body language follows. Before we know it, everyone knows how insecure we are… which makes us more insecure. We have compiled a list of signals that scream ‘insecurities.’

Adapting to fit in

Do you find that whoever you spend time with, you’re adjusting your personality, what you wear, views, and tastes to fit in? You feel like you can’t be 100% yourself with these people, and you’re completely covering up your true identity. Remember that if they’re true friends, you can be yourself, no matter what, and they won’t bat an eyelid. There is no point in covering up who you are for other people. It’s exhausting.

Joint Social Media Account

Sharing a social media account with your partner might show that you struggle with your individuality in the relationship. You will have to discuss what to post and ask whether what you want to post is okay. It’s not the best way forward, especially with social media being so popular for everyone. Having a joint account with your other half can show that you don’t know who you are without them.

Showy Purchases

If you’re constantly buying pretty flashy items to show other people what you’ve got, then this could be a big sign of insecurities. The main insecurities with this could be financial stability or status. Either way, you should remember that your worth is labeled by what you buy. It would also be better to have a friendship group that liked you, for you, rather than what you could buy.

Constantly Seeking Validation

If you’ve done something worth recognition, it’s always great to be recognized for it. However, if you’re constantly seeking validation, then it’s a sign of insecurities. It can give people the impression that you’re not confident in your work and choices. So, it’s better always to be mindful that your value doesn’t decrease on someone’s inability to see what you do and your work.

Always Needing Noise

If you cannot sit in comfortable silence and feel the need to fill in any part with talking, this could be a sign you’re uncomfortable and potentially insecure. Sometimes, a person only needs to sit and listen, and you don’t always need to fill in the gaps. Silence can be bliss, so try and take it in instead of talking so much.

Self-Deprecating Humor

Being in the right setting and using self-deprecating humor can be fun. However, if you’re using it too much, then it can seem as if you’re not comfortable with who you are. The constantly used jokes could be covering up your genuine thoughts and insecurities. You’re more than the jokes that you surround yourself with.

Making Social Media Declarations

If you spend most of your time declaring your love for your partner on social media rather than keeping it quiet and showing it more behind closed doors, it could be a hint of insecurity in your relationship. Having a behind-the-scenes relationship is more rewarding than posting on social media for comments and likes.

Can Dish It Out, But Can’t Take It

If you like to joke around with your friends, that’s great, and it can create a good foundation for friendships. However, if you’re always dishing out the jokes but unable to take them, it might signal that you’re insecure. Friendship is a two-way thing, and you should be able to handle the backlash like they do.

Putting Others Down for Not Drinking

More people these days are taking on sobriety than ever before. If someone decides not to drink during a day or night out, then there is no reason you should be teasing them. If you do, it could show insecurity about your drinking habits. It’s someone’s choice to drink, and you should respect that choice. Being respectful can make a social occasion more enjoyable.

Unable to Acknowledge not Knowing

If you’re conversing with your friends and claim to know everything about everything, then it could be a notification that you’re insecure about the not knowing aspect of life. We don’t know everything. There are some things that we don’t have the brain capacity to hold all of the world’s information. It is entirely okay not to know everything.

Announcing What Type of Person You Are

You can come across as insecure if you’re constantly announcing which personality traits you have. Actions always speak louder than words; the same applies to your personality. You will show people exactly what you’re like and the kind of person you are. There is no point in trying to express who you are through words only; it doesn’t work.

Mocking Someone Else’s Achievement

We all do things that someone else wouldn’t want or like to do. If you’re finding it challenging to celebrate other people’s achievements and resort to mocking them instead, this could signal insecurity about your accomplishments. Nothing will take away your achievements, so learn to celebrate everyone for everything.

Being Completely Honest about Everything

You could be insecure about expressing vulnerability if you’re too blunt and disregarding people’s feelings. There is a line between being honest and being plain mean and ignorant. It is more appreciated and kind if you express and share your thoughts respectfully and kindly.

Belittling others

Do you always have something negative to say about someone? Then it could be an indication of your insecurities. It is a known fact that people will spend their time belittling others in reflection of what they hate about themselves. So, when you feel like you’ll knock someone, step back and try lifting them instead. This will make you feel better, and it is much more fulfilling.

Never Apologizing

If you struggle to apologize for what you’ve done wrong, it could be a sign of insecurity about being seen as wrong or weak. It isn’t harmful to admit that you’re wrong; in fact, it shows a level of maturity and strength. It’s completely okay to be wrong sometimes.

One-Upping Everything

If you’re conversing with friends or family, and you feel the need to make it into a competition, it could indicate that you have low self-esteem and insecurity issues. You don’t need to spend your time one-upping everyone about everything. We all have unique experiences, sit back and enjoy what they say without putting your two pence in. Life is no competition!

Bragging about being “Alpha Males”

Do you find yourself trying to flex your “alpha” status constantly? If so, you might feel a bit insecure about your place in the group. It is better to be part of a team and lead by example rather than bragging about something that, quite frankly, is rather annoying.

Constantly Projecting and Giving Self-Serving Compliments
Do any compliments you give to someone loop back to you, and you end up complimenting yourself instead? If this is the case, you might need to be more confident about your achievements. Genuine compliments go a lot further; they make the person receiving it feel good, and you should also feel great.
